I’ve been hearing numerous stories this month about quite an array of bosses and co workers who’ve driven my storytellers out of their jobs, and for some, right out of their minds (for awhile). The bullies, abusers remained and the talented workers left one after another. Some of the talent remained but report their creativity was dampened or snuffed right out. Their energy was used to simply guard themselves.
One described her work leader as a barracuda, barking out orders, demanding to know ‘What are you doing?’ Even that work leader’s superiors were frightened of the barracuda but, ‘she got results’ so they let her be. How can upper management continue to let ‘abusive’ behaviour go on? In the military, recruits have to do what they’re told, to act as one – for the greater good. Watch a Clip from The Caine Mutiny: http://www.tcm.com/mediaroom/video/413565/Caine-Mutiny-The-Movie-Clip-I-Kid-You-Not.html See how one sailor tries to relieve Bogart from his paranoid captain’s duties on the Caine – Video 2, 4. At one point the 2nd in command is labelled a fool or a mutineer by the lawyer and later he is cast a hero.
